Biogas Cabo Delgado

A partnership with EEP (Environmental and Energy Programs) funded by MFA Finland, is funding the construction of 5 bio digesters

A partnership with EEP (Environmental and Energy Programs) funded by MFA Finland, is funding the construction of 5 bio digesters. These bio digesters aim to provide biogas to the kitchen at DNS Cabo Delgado and residential homes, and at Bilibiza Health Center and Maternity. The expected impact of the bio digester system project outputs and results is the reduction of the time spent collecting firewood for cooking purposes. This system will also improve the environment on a long-term basis as it will reduce the impact of deforestation and the amount of CO2 emissions and other greenhouse gases. Furthermore, there will be a reduction in the contamination of soil and water, there will be a reuse of wastewater, self-sufficiency in energy, better sanitary conditions for animals and workers, the reduction of odors, vectors and pathogens, generation of revenue and jobs, carbon credits and the economy and sale of electricity are other positive factors. This project is contributing to the self sustainability of the ADPP projects in Bilibiza, the Teacher Training College, the Farmers’ Club project and the Biofuel Centre, as well as the local population who is benefiting from the bio digester constructed at the clinic.

The EEP Programme in Southern and East Africa is jointly funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland (lead donor) and The Austrian Development Agency (ADA).
